Why everything is directional, a cognitive bias in product design, and the potential to replace your salary
Why everything is directional
All things in life usually follow a trend. The trend can go up or down alongside everything in your life getting better or worse. Even when things are floating on the same level we might feel the downtrend, because everything else seems to keep moving up.
Last week I discovered an article by Darius Foroux on Uptrend vs Downtrend. In it, the author walks you through the idea of seeing trends everywhere you look: stocks, health, knowledge, relationships, etc.
In the end, Darius states:
Life never moved in one single direction. There’s no perfect state of mind. Even though many people desire to have equilibrium, that’s not the nature of life.
Cognitive bias in product design
Cognitive biases are patterns of thinking that result from the mental shortcuts we take in order to process the millions of pieces of information bombarding us daily.
Unlike mental models—expectations of how a system will work based on prior experience—cognitive biases are hard-wired into our brains.
In the Infographic inside the article, the author walks us through the cognitive bias in product design.
The potential to replace your salary
These days everyone can build a side-hustle that can replace their salary. This tweet from Justin Welsh explains it really well:
If you’re employed you can still:
- Consult
- Freelance
- Write eBooks
- Create video courses
- Run a paid community
- Write a paid newsletter
- Do cohort-based coaching
The barrier to entry has never been lower.
The potential to replace your salary has never been higher.— Justin Welsh (@JustinSaaS) January 5, 2022
